Does a blow to the head justify a personal injury claim?

There are many ways that you might suffer a blow to the head because of some other party's negligence or mistake, whether that is in a car accident, a slip-and-fall, or while riding on public or private transportation. Regardless of where you receive a blow to the head, if some other party is responsible for the injury, you may have grounds for a personal injury suit, It is wise to understand the issues at hand before moving forward with legal action.

First, get a professional medical examination as soon as possible, especially if you feel lasting symptoms of any kind from the injury. A doctor or other medical professional can help you identify any significant injuries to your brain, which you may not be able to recognize otherwise.

Any blow to the head may be enough to cause a mild traumatic brain injury, or TBI. Mild TBIs are actually quite dangerous and may cause surprising symptoms, some of which can completely ruin the victim's professional and personal lives. Don't assume that a minor blow to the head is not a big deal, because it may be a very real problem.

Symptoms of a mild TBI

Depending on the nature of the injury and severity of the damage, a mild TBI may affect victims in a variety of ways. However, there are some common symptoms that regularly cause big problems, and it is wise for you to look for them in your own experience if you recently suffered a head injury.

These injuries are like lightly scrambling your brain the way you might lightly shake an egg. In basic terms, they often sever connections within the brain, making it difficult for the victim to remember things or complete simple tasks they performed easily prior to the injury. At the same time, the victim often experiences severe mood swings and frustrated outbursts because of their inability to focus and complete tasks that were previously familiar or easy.

If the victim and those around the victim do not know that they suffered a brain injury, this behavior may simply seem like anti-social immaturity, which is rarely welcome in professional settings or the victim's personal life.

Get the help you need

Whether or not you suffered a brain injury when you received a blow to the head, it is important to seek medical treatment to determine how much the experience affected you and whether you have lasting symptoms that require treatment. If so, then you should consider a personal injury lawsuit against the party responsible.

Always make sure to use high-quality legal resources and guidance when building a personal injury claim, to ensure that you understand your rights and how to protect them, and to give you a better chance of succeeding in your claim and receiving full compensation for your losses.
