Wayne Newton sued over injuries from alleged monkey attack

New York fans of longtime entertainer Wayne Newton might be interested to learn that a woman has filed a lawsuit against him over an alleged monkey attack that took place in his former Las Vegas home. The incident reportedly occurred in October 2017.

According to the complaint, which was filed in Nevada on Aug. 5, the woman and her teenage daughter were invited to tour Casa de Shenandoah, a former mansion of Newton's that was converted into a tourist attraction featuring a museum, gardens, horse stables and exotic animals. During the visit, one of Newton's pet monkeys allegedly attacked the teen and bit her, causing her to suffer unspecified injuries. The lawsuit claims the attack happened without provocation.

The plaintiff is seeking at least $15,000 in damages for the attack. However, Newton's wife issued a statement in response to the complaint saying that the Newton family parted ways with the owners of Casa de Shenandoah on July 1, 2017, which was three months before the incident took place. As a result, she claims the family has "no idea" what occurred on the day of the incident.

Property owners are required to maintain a safe environment for visitors. When someone is injured due to dangerous conditions on a property, the victim has a right to pursue financial compensation through the civil court system. An attorney could fight for a victim's rights and help file a premises liability lawsuit against the responsible owner. As a result of this action, the victim could be awarded compensation that covers a variety of damages, including current and future medical expenses, pain and suffering, lost wages and mental anguish. Victims could have their case evaluated by contacting an experienced attorney.
